Founded in late 2019, Athebio is a highly innovative biotech startup on a mission to revolutionize the field of biotherapeutics. We specialize in developing advanced biotherapeutics with pharma partners based on Designed Ankyrin Repeat Proteins (DARPins) and enable the design and creation a variety of modalities including radiotherapeutics, ADCs, AAV, LNP and T cell engagers.

Your responsibilities

• Drive Innovation: Contribute to innovations that propel our Athebody^® DARPin discovery platform forward, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. Contribute to continuous process development and integration of cutting-edge methods.
• Take Ownership: Pro-actively drive forward assigned tasks, get expert input as needed and manage stakeholders, while keeping an overview of the broader context and priorities. 
• Scientific Excellence: Maintain rigorous standards in your experiments, striving for scientific excellence.
• DARPin Delivery: Our super stable Athebody^® DARPins can be efficiently produced in bacteria and you will ensure the timely delivery of these remarkable proteins to our partners, which includes hands-on support for protein engineering, expression, purification and characterization.
• Quality Control: We focus on delivering only the best molecules to our partners, for use in a variety of therapeutic applications. Understand the critical parameters and the corresponding methods to measure them. Ensure that a final product meets the agreed criteria.
• Data Mastery: Analyze and interpret data, considering the larger project setting, then summarize and present key messages to the team and management, to enable efficient decision making.
• Knowledge Expansion: Continuously expand your scientific and technical expertise.

Key requirements

• Ph.D. in protein biochemistry (or equivalent education) with an emphasis on protein engineering, production and characterization. 
• Minimum of 2 years of drug discovery lab experience in industry, with knowledge of standard biotherapeutic discovery processes.
• Strong understanding and expertise with state-of-the-art methodologies in protein science and molecular biology. Enthusiasm to introduce new ideas.
• Experience with mammalian cell culture and in vitro cell-based assays such as FACS.
• Dedication to hands-on work in the lab and optimizing complex workflows is crucial. Ability to develop new methods and provide clear protocols to colleagues.
• Pragmatic goal-oriented approach and ability to drive project-related tasks independently with minimal guidance.
• Timely, independent, and precise working style, in the planning, execution and documentation of experiments.
• Critical thinking and a problem-solving attitude.
• Team player with proactive communication and ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
