Athebio, founded in 2019 and based in Zurich, Switzerland, is a biotech company with a strong background in biotherapeutics. We specialize in drug discovery and protein engineering, leveraging our Athebody® platform for novel biotherapeutic approaches. Our focus includes targeted delivery (LNP, AAV) and targeted radio-therapies in collaboration with leading biotech and pharma companies.

We are strengthening and expanding our protein science team and are looking for an experienced and agile Protein Scientist/Senior Research Associate to join our team. In this role, you will develop, plan, and execute assays and analytical methods while contributing with your own ideas to expand our assay and analytical capabilities.
Our agile biotech environment provides further the opportunity to learn/contribute to discovery and protein production, driving forward the research and development projects.
 
Your Role and Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute assays for candidate profiling and in-depth characterization of therapeutic candidates.
  • Analyze, interpret and report data, and present them to the team, management, and external partners.
  • Apply your expertise to optimize existing and develop new analytical assays to expand our analytical method portfolio and strengthen the developability assessment for therapeutic candidates.
  • Produce therapeutic candidates and proteins, apply chemical conjugation methods to modify Athebody candidates using established procedures, while contribute to process optimization and workflow efficiency. 
  • Demonstrate pragmatic biotech approach with a sense of urgency.
  • Maintain high scientific standards to ensure reliable results.
  • Collaborate across teams to shape candidate profiling strategies and engage with external providers and partners.
  • Stay curious, proactive, and committed to continuously growing your scientific and technical expertise.
 
What You Bring
  • Degree in life sciences (preferably in biochemistry/protein science) with 5+ years of industry experience, or equivalent technician track in pharma/biotech. 
  • Proven expertise in protein analytics, with hands-on experience in e.g. SEC, HIC, IEX, SDS-PAGE, ceSDS, ELISA, BLI/SPR, CD/DSF/DSC, LC-MS.
     Excellent ability to evaluate, interpret and report analytical data.
  • Ideally, experience in developability assessment of biotherapeutic drug candidates.
  • Solid background in biochemical methods, including protein conjugation, labeling, and related quality control testing.
  • Knowledge of the discovery process for biotherapeutics in industrial setting.
  • Preferably, you have hands-on experience in protein production (microbial or mammalian) and protein purification by using affinity chromatography and classical chromatography.
  • Ability to independently propose, plan, and execute assays, with a strong focus on optimizing and developing analytical methods and workflows.
  • Result-driven mindset, with a pragmatic working style and a strong team spirit, demonstrated through proactive communication.
  • High adaptability to changing priorities in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, paired with a strong sense of urgency and responsiveness.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal.
